Climbing ladders in Database Administration at Sarvika Tech. Sunil Chaudhary #PeopleofSarvika

February 21, 2023 9:39 am | by Sarvika Technologies | Posted in Life At Sarvika

Sunil got the title of Sarvikan six years back, presently working with the Application Development team and handling everything that comes under his area of responsibility as a Senior Database Administrator.

Hailing from Jasnagar, a small town in Rajasthan, he completed his Master’s in computer application degree from Pondicherry and became a part of our team in 2016 when we were working towards what we are today.

Over the years, he has been a close watcher of our growth and a core part of our organization. In this People of Sarvika Series, we had a conversation with Sunil where he talked about his career, life at Sarvika, and everything in between. Read Ahead.

1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

It’s been a long time since I got into Sarvika Tech. Although I commenced my journey as a Java Developer but just after six months, I got into Database Administration due to project requirements.

Being a complete newbie, I started everything from scratch as I wasn’t familiar with anything when put into this new technology. It was also a great add-on to my skills at the twilight of my career as I was getting introduced to many new and unexplored things in the tech industry. I am very thankful to my team for their support to teach me everything from the basics.

I grew up in a family of Army officers. As a kid surrounded by officers, I also thought of wearing the army uniform one day. But I wasn’t aware that destiny had other plans for me. My vitiligo issues came out as an obstacle to cracking the medical requirements and persuaded me to consider other options in my career.

I enrolled in a Bachelor’s program of computer applications, which introduced me to the different facets of technology. I then opted for post-graduation in the same discipline in Pondicherry as I started enjoying reading and exploring the technological aspects and what goes behind creating solutions we see every day.

2. How would you like to explain your role at Sarvika?

We have clients in diverse industries and various scales of applications. As a part of the Database team, I am responsible for designing the database models, migration, automation needed and administration to manage the high-volume databases.

We are also responsible for managing the vulnerability of database servers and applications that provide data integrity and consistency. At Sarvika Tech, we follow high-security protocols to secure the databases and have always displayed quality working standards for our clients.

3. You have been part of Sarvika Tech for a long time. How would you define your experience?

Sarvika Tech was the first organization which I joined after completing my education. Unlike the enormous premises in the center of Jaipur, it is today, back then it was a small setup in the basement of RC’s (Director, Sarvika Technologies) house.

I was interviewed by him who was looking to expand the team size to cater for the requirements. More than an organization, I would be considering Sarvika Tech as an alma mater.

Today, we are working to shape our clients’ digital presence while maintaining the large applications that are still far from phasing out. It feels amazing to be a part of a workplace which believes in taking care of your personal and professional growth.

4. Would you like to share about any of the obstacles you faced in your personal or professional journey?

As an individual who studied in a Hindi school having a rural background, communicating in English was one of the biggest challenges. Although I was skilled in grammar as it was part of my curriculum, my speaking skills were awful.

Over the years, I have worked on enhancing my communication skills by reading lots of books on self-help, biographies, and many other subjects.

Second, it was a complicated task to convince my parents to make a career in the IT stream. They were completely unsure and unaware of my choice as I come from a family background where a career in technology was an alien concept.

My father wanted me to work as a farmer with him or prepare for government exams like most individuals of my age were doing in my village. It took me time to win the confidence of my parents, but now when they see me doing good in my work, they are happy for me more than myself.

5. Indeed, your career journey wasn’t a straight road. What advice would you like to give to freshers or budding IT individuals?

Preparation is everything. When I was put into the world of the database, I utilized every single resource to help me learn and become better than before.

From getting constant support from the people around me, I also joined LinkedIn groups, seminars, and key people in the DBA to better understand the ins and outs of the industry, every single day.

I have come across many people in the organization who have risen to top designations with consistency and work ethics.

6. Lastly, what do you like to do after office hours?

I like listening to songs in Hindi, English and Tamil (Yes, I am a polyglot) and am more inclined towards beats than lyrics. You can find me listening to songs after my office or while doing household chores.

Apart from that, most people don’t know that I am also into cooking and like to try my hands at preparing different cuisines.

For the last 1-2 years, I have started reading and listening to podcasts which have been a companion in enhancing my communication skills in terms of writing and speaking about my thoughts.
